National Public Radio (NPR) is the largest public service broadcaster in the United States.
Requirements: NPR seeks a short-term AND a full-time producer for our Delhi Bureau who is tech savvy, loves to travel, and is a news hound with people skills. Must be an Indian citizen. Media experience and 3 years Journalism preferred. Must be fluent in English and Hindi and other regional languages highly useful. We’re looking for a team player in our small office with a super positive attitude, someone who is flexible and can work independently. Candidates with international experience are most welcome. The short-term producer job involves working closely with a visiting NPR Host and our team in March and April. They are coming to look at environmental issues and will be here for a week.
What to expect: Our full-time NPR producer would work closely with the New Delhi Bureau Chief tracking the news, formulating features for both web and broadcast, and traveling to get the stories. Is expected to conduct in-depth research, liaise with spokespersons and sources, be highly organized, and have a solid grasp of logistics. Would be expected to operate recording machines and manipulate audio. Photography skills prized. Producer would be our eye and ears in the field, and excellent command of English/Hindi a must. Big part of the job is interpreting in the field. Expected to operate under deadlines and show initiative. This is a terrific position for a self-starter who thrives under unexpected and unusual demands of the news business.
Expected to work some weekends.
